Although rich in regional history South Africa compared with the U.S.A., has rather neglected this national heritage. Thus placed of regional historical interest are still not appropriately indicated and important events of the past are falling into oblivion. Regional history is, however, a fertile and rewarding field of research, in which the investigator is bound to come across innumerable difficulties, some of which are discussed here.
